Dr. Lisa Lombard founded Comfort Kits for Children in March 2022. She brings over 30 years of direct service, teaching, and supervisory experience to this humanitarian effort. As a clinical psychologist in Chicago, she integrates mind-body skills in her therapeutic work with children, families, and adults. She has extensive experience providing treatment to children and adults coping with unexpected grief and loss, as well as assessment and treatment for children who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Cheryl Bemel, PhD

Vice President

Dr. Cheryl Bemel is a licensed psychologist and adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota's School of Dentistry, training dentists and dental students in psychophysiological pain management. She has deployed with the Minnesota Behavioral Health Medical Reserve Corps to provide Psychological First Aid at national disaster sites, and served as a Crisis Psychologist in hospital emergency rooms. Dr. Bemel has her own private practice treating children and families with complex medical disorders and chronic PTSD. She is an Approved Consultant with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and teaches at NPHTI conferences.

Dr. Bob Deutsch joined Dr. Lombard in Spring 2022 to co-found Comfort Kits for Children. He has over 40 years of experience treating children, adults, and families, teaching and supervising healthcare professionals, and leading healthcare organizations. As a clinical psychologist in West Hartford, CT, his work focuses on helping people contending with psychological, mind-body, and addiction disorders, and he has worked closely with children and adults enduring loss, medical trauma, and end-of-life experiences.

Brynn Sytsma, PsyD

Dr. Brynn is a pediatric neuropsychologist in Wisconsin with experience providing therapeutic and assessment services in community and school settings. As a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming clinician, she takes a resiliency and strength-based approach to her work with children and their families. Dr. Brynn also demonstrates the Comfort Mind-Body Practices in our video skill guides.
